About

Who We Are

Since 2019 Black Brilliance leadership has married their skills in strategizing, advocating, and collaborating with neighbors, institutions, and small nonprofits to create safer communities in the South Minneapolis area and beyond.

Black Brilliance is a dynamic and innovative consulting firm dedicated to empowering and uplifting marginalized populations through a communal-centered approach. With a strong emphasis on fostering safety, advocacy, and well-being, our team is committed to creating sustainable solutions that address the unique challenges faced by underserved populations. By leveraging our expertise and experience, we work with community members to co-create strategies that promote safety, resilience, equity, and social justice while using restorative practices. At Black Brilliance, we believe in the power of collective action and strive to cultivate environments where all individuals can thrive and reach their full potential.

With over more than a decade of experience as Executive Directors of Corcoran, Central, and Bryant Neighborhoods, both Alicia and Carmen have played a major role in maintaining, establishing, and furthering community partnerships to advance overall community health. Alicia and Carmen played a vital role in the MinneapolUS initiative as advisors and partners with the Office of Violence Prevention. Both are still in partnership with the Neighborhood Safety Department.

In 2022, Carmen served on the City of Minneapolis Mayor Safety Advisory Work Group. As a result, their work is reflected in current collaborations with several key initiatives, which include the South Minneapolis Anti-Racism Coalition (SMAC) and the Southside United Neighborhoods (SUN) Project - New Era Collaborative (NEC), 38th Street United, Midtown Farmers Market, and Hennepin County Suicide Prevention Collaboration. These interactions exemplify community-centered, grassroots organizing, and movement-building work that facilitates across and alongside various community stakeholders.

Despite the conclusion of Alicia's 5-years with Corcoran in December of 2023 and Carmen's upcoming completion of her term with Central and Bryan in June 2024, both executives have maintained their ties and will persist in fulfilling volunteer commitments and ongoing advisory duties. Their enduring relationship with South Minneapolis remains steadfast.

In the spirit of efficiency, excellence, and capacity Black Brilliance has partners that frequently in advisory and subcontractural roles.
